Holy moly, some actual exposition! Next week is going to be pretty interesting, I think.
One of my greatest pleasures is when a band I had previously written off proves me wrong and releases a truly excellent album. Sigur Ros' new record Takk... is that kind of record- after the monotonous, dirgey moaning of () it seems the Icelandic atmosphericists realized that "hey we should probably actually write SONGS for our next record" and did just that. This is an album with the sweeping grandeur of their first album and a newfound sense of playfulness and excitement that has never been in their music before. You can hear them having a really good time and even *gasp* rocking the fuck out on these songs! I totally recommend this album to anyone who liked Agaetis Byrjun, even those of us who really hated (). If you haven't heard of Sigur Ros before, this is easily their most accessible album to date so it's a great place to start.
