Gosh, how long has it been since I wrote an actual newspost? Feels like...fifty years...
Anyway! Here's how I've been doing lately.
I stopped posting all the time on twitter a couple months back, but over this weekend I did a bunch of satirical tweets impersonating Elon Musk and they went fairly viral and he got so mad he (personally, I like to think) deleted my account. Nothing of value was lost, a good time was had by all, etc etc. If you google around I'm sure you can find screenshots.
I find myself in the privileged position of being able to walk away from a social media account with 80,000+ followers (it had ballooned to over 100k before it was suspended, lol) with no significant penalties to my life or income (as far as I can tell). I should probably, like, promote my work on other social media, but honestly I'm pretty burned out on the whole concept. I'm lucky to be able to draw my comics and put them on this website and have enough of you folks reading to pay my bills and buy food for my dog (Ollie's doing good, btw), and that's good enough for me.
SPEAKING OF WHICH, if you DO want to help support the comic (and feed Ollie), you should consider subscribing to my Patreon
. For as little as $1 a month you get comics 24 hours early, occasional bonus content, and access to a genuinely really sweet little community of people who like my comic.
If you prefer PHYSICAL GOODS, my Topatoco store
remains open as always. I should really get back to them about more print versions of QC, that's been on the back burner for too long and is entirely my fault.
Otherwise...stuff is pretty good! I hit my 10 year sobriety anniversary last week, and it was such a not-big-deal I didn't even remember until the next day. That feels pretty good! I really like living in Nova Scotia. It has its problems, no place is perfect, but I'm very happy here. I'm slowly getting into indoor gardening, maybe? I dunno, I bought a bunch of succulents and a couple grow lights and it's pretty satisfying to watch the lil guys slowly unfurl new leaves and stuff. I still play guitar all the time, but progress on more finished music has slowed, because in my experience writing new songs gets harder as you get older (there are only so many notes, and your ear becomes more discerning). But it's still fun and satisfying and continues trundling along at its own pace.
OH I SHOULD PROBABLY TALK ABOUT HOW I ACTUALLY FEEL ABOUT THE COMIC THESE DAYS HUH
Y'all I am having SO much fun with QC. I can't wait for Marten and Claire to visit Cubetown. Not sure when that's gonna happen since I've got a couple other plot threads going right now, and lord knows I'm good at stretching out 24 hours' comic time over several months' worth of strips. But it's gonna be a good time, once we eventually get there. I've also been happier with the art lately? I'm never gonna be a GREAT ARTIST or whatever but I'm finally getting to the point where I can look at my stuff and see beyond the mistakes.
Anyway I think that's all for now! Dunno if I'll write posts like this more in the future or what, I kinda got used to just posting the comics and letting them speak for themselves. But this has been fun, so maybe. Who knows! Thank you for reading.
